julie, 21; fifty shades of cray fangirling

We’ve been married almost a full day and I don’t believe we’ve had our first dance.

death-andallherfriends:

I love how Vastra put it into perspective not only for Clara, but for all the fans who didn’t like that Peter Capaldi was much older than Matt Smith, that the doctor has many faces and can take any face when he regenerates.

The point of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

quirky-oats:

the point of pouring a shit ton of ice water over yourself is because when one suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) one of the affects the disease has is a numbness throughout the body, as well as struggling to breathe, and both these are meant to temporarily happen when doused in freezing water. It’s to raise awareness of what ALS feels like and encourage donations towards research and cures.

Its a motor neuron disease….it causes degeneration of motor neurons and consequently progressive atrophy of associated muscle tissues( ALL OF YOUR MUSCLES) and supporting cells. No single test for diagnosing ALS exists.

Symptoms include weakness, speech problems, overactive reflexes, spasticity, and inappropriate emotionality. Disease onset usually begins in the limbs (termed spinal onset), although about a quarter of ALS patients have “bulbar” onset… wich means they’ll lose the control of their diaphragma and they’ll lose the ability to breath on their own…FOREVER.

The worst part is that during this process they can feel everything….. On my 1st year of residency (internal medicine), i had a patient with ALS… He had 430 days in the hospital! because he was connected to the mechanical ventilator. He couldn’t move anymore… he would blink to say yes or no, and sometimes he would smile a little. By the end of the year.. he couldn’t even blink. Thats the sad part of this disease, you see them losing all kind of movement while they can FEEL everything, this disease doesn’t affect the “sensitive” neurons.

So not such thing as numbness….
